Things I Like
4lalala:
the-girl-detective-fails:
The way Idris Elba sits on chairs
The way Idris Elba leans against things
The way Idris Elba wears ridiculous hats before punching serial killers in the face
That thing he does, where he exists…
It’s just too much…
Pretty well sums it up.

– Louie (via hotcomedy)
when she didn’t totally melt and makeout with him right there after making this speech, I totally wanted to punch her in the boob for dogging Louie. she’s a nutter.
I need her to not show up in another episode this season.

Meat or Monogamy
I’m being very nostalgic, thinking about how I miss the days when Flickr was brand new and it was this awesome little community where I got to throw stuff out into the void and get feedback and meet new people and it was just awesome. My pro account lapsed about a month ago and aside from not being able to put new stuff on Ravelry, I kind of don’t even care. Most of my favorite old...

Homemade pho! Ok, it’s ramen. So sue me. But I added some home made sweet meatball sauce and peas. Trust me- there were no exciting photo opportunities while I worked from home, had HVAC techs over to look at my heater, or napped later in the afternoon. Or while I watched Twilight New Moon. So yeah, I’m boring. But I’ve got LOTS going on tomorrow!
they don't like that
Kim: i bought the world's cheapest moisturizer, and damned if it isn't awesome on my skin
rite-aid dry skin cream
the fuck, i could have been spending $5 this whole time.
me: lol
I got Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturinzing GEL
the gel is the key
for my oily oily french fry face
Kim: heh
gel is great
but in the winter i need like, butter on my skin
me: I can definitely tell a difference in winter. After I wash my face it gets all tight
annoying!
i need some sort of pore vacuum
Kim: i read an article recently about oil cleaning
basically you mix camphor oil with like, olive oil or something and massage your face with it
apparently it pulls out all the dirt and shit
i'm going to need to do a lot more research before i commit to rubbing more oil into my face
me: yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about it
without the research driven part
I just.... don't know about rubbing MORE oil into my face
It feels like a trick
like when Cosmo said to put ice cubes in your mouth before giving a guy a bj
Kim: HAHAHA
yeah, they don't like that
me: that's how you get kicked in the face
I want a refund, COSMO
...
me: (I feel I should let you know I'm blogging this convo)
Kim: okay, add the part where i am also considering slathering apple cider vinegar on my face.
and take out the spelling errors
me: hahahahaa

I have really got to start getting out with my camera during the daylight hours, but work makes that pretty difficult. Oh, and my propensity for falling asleep as soon as I get home. Could it be because I stay up till after 1am every night? Nahhhh…. Anyway, while I hear women aren’t supposed to make lists of what they want in a man- it sure would be nice to find one who doesn’t...

Super secret knitting project! Well, not as super secret as it could be if I weren’t posting pictures of it but hey- it’ll do. Nothing but progress shots for a while though. I’m trying to finish by Sunday since classes start the next day (which will likely hamper any additional progress). Nothing like a deadline to get things rolling!

I’ve made peace with the fact that probably 2/5ths of my daily photos will be of food. This is because I like to cook. A LOT. I like having control over what goes into it and playing with ingredients. This photo however, is more about my attempts at a pantry stashdown.
I blame the food blogs I follow for getting me all into making soups lately. I used some of my homemade chicken stock to...

This house sits just across the road from the cemetery where my grandparents rest. I love the old dilapidated houses and tobacco barns that line the state’s highways, and have this idea to photograph them all before they crumble into piles of wood and kudzu.

There’s quite a lot of correction going on here (which you’ll see in the blurry patchiness) because Anna’s got a bit of a rash on her adorable face that looks worse than it is. I just couldn’t resist sharing a photo of her, as she’s the spitting image of her father. So cute!
Nothing but Time
7 days and 5 hours till the start of my Spring semester. 173 hours until I will be sitting in a classroom and tasked with reading, writing, research, labs, and assignments.
45 of those hours will be spent working, so really I only have 128 hours to go. Oh, plus 1 hour to get ready and 2 hours a day spent commuting leaves me with 113. Gotta walk Riley! He forces me out into the cold for an hour...

This claddagh ornament was the last to be removed from my Christmas tree when I finally took it down late Thursday night/Friday morning. That tree could’ve easily stood another month in my place, as it had lost hardly any needles and showed no signs of deterioration. Alas, Saturday was the last day that the city of Alexandria would pickup trees for recycling so it’s off to live a...

One jar of chicken stock (2 cups) and a bowl of leftover bones & veggies that were strained out. There’s more broth currently chilling in the freezer (poured into silicon muffin pan wells to freeze into servings), maybe another 2 cups worth. Cooking makes me feel like a mad scientist.

Making chicken stock in the slow cooker this evening, since I didn’t get a snow day to stay home and let it cook all day long. This is a roast chicken carcass, some celery, red onion, carrot, and pink peppercorns. (I used this recipe as a guide.) I guess I’ll use the finished product for… chicken soup? I took all of the meat off the chicken and most of it is sitting in the...

Hoping the rumors of snow would result in messy enough roads for me to stay home on Wednesday, I went to the store to pick up a few provisions. They were well stocked in milk and bread, but apparently there was a run on breakfast sausage (which tells me I wasn’t the only one planning for a delayed opening at the very least). I left with veggies and fruits for some new smoothie recipes, a...

Ok, so I sort of forgot Monday. As often happens after staying up late the night before, I got home and took an unintended nap- missing my class at the gym. Then I had another project to work on, and suddenly it was 11:58p. So what we have here is my ridiculously cluttered coffee table. The featured item (the orange coffee cup) being one of my favorite Christmas gifts. It’s from a set of...
Love Love Love
I love Corinne Bailey Rae, and Concrete Loop (shaddup) posted a new single from her that’ll be part of The Love EP released later this year. I love her voice & writing, and put on her CDs when I want to listen to ‘quiet music’. If she put out a live record I’d want it on vinyl. It’d sound nice with those little static needle pops. The idea that she is putting out...

Better late than never- I’m working on the baby blanket for my new niece Anna. She’ll be not quite a month old when I meet her next weekend, and I plan to have this blanket finished by Thursday afternoon so I can block and wrap it before I leave Friday. (And for the knitters, it’s the Hemlock Ring.)

After a morning of volunteering at the USO on Ft Belvoir, we decided to grab lunch at Johnny Mac’s Rib Shack- a little stand advertising NC style barbecue. It’s no King’s or Hog Heaven, but it’ll do in a pinch. Never tried the mean greens though.

Things I am Considering Doing on Saturday
Pumpkin & apple picking
Yoga/gym
Pedicure
Paint my bedroom (who wants to help me move furniture?)
Catch up on my Netflix queue
Carve the pumpkin
Henna (Dye) my hair
Wash/Shave my dog (not a euphamism)
Homework
Can applesauce
Go out to a club on the last night my driver’s license is valid
Feelings are boring, Kissing is awesome.
Making out with a bad kisser is so disappointing. It’s like waking up at someone else’s house and trying to make a sandwich- the bread is stale, the cheese slices have been in the fridge so long they have those stiff darkened corners, and no mustard. It stands to reason that it could’ve been a good sandwich… alas.
Have you ever tried to doctor up a bad sandwich? The whole...

sparkly!
Ooooooh sparkly! I love sparkly. I’ve wanted a sparkly tank top forever but refuse to get one that’s only sparkly on the front. I should perhaps lower my sparkly standards.
This messenger bag however, need only be sparkly on the front. There’s a black & gold one too… I’m torn.
